Eddie Money’s Music will Forever be πŸ’²πŸ’²πŸ’², yo

My very first concert, the July 19, 1980, World Series of Rock at the Cleveland Stadium, also happened to be the very best and most memorable concert I’ve ever attended.

That day was one massive mess of merriment and music…

It was hot as hellfire that day and the 80,000 fans were boiling and roiling hot and went frikkin’ nuts every time a helicopter came by to dump water on them.

Gawd it was wild.

And what a line up of rockers…

Each of them all-time classics.

The show opened with a little known band at the time called Def Leppard and headlined with one of my favorite rockers of all time Bob Seger and his Silver Bullet Band.

The J. Geils Band, which was super hot then with their Love Stinks album, went on before Bob.

And before J. Geils and after Leppard, Eddie Money, the one-time police officer trainee and one of the greatest two-, possibly three-, hit wonder of all time totally annihilated the crowd, rockin’ it into a frenzy with one of the hottest tracks at the time, Two Tickets to Paradise.

What memories… kind of.

This was 1980 after all and I was on summer break and on the verge of turning fifteen and heading into my freshman year of high school…

Anyway, there was a rumor after the concert that during Eddie’s performance of Two Tickets to Paradise, he actually tossed out two plane tickets to Hawaii.

I doubt if it’s true…

But I sure hope it is.

What memories…

Kind of.

  1. Adored Eddie Money. First saw him on American Bandstand in 1978. He sang “Two Tickets to Paradise”. I was 14 😁. Saw him live in Wendover, Nevada, in 2012. Still amazing. My favorite of his top 40 hits. – include “Baby Hold On”, “Two Tickets to Paradise”, “Think I’m in Love”, “Shakin'”, “Take Me Home Tonight”, “I Wanna Go Back” Great memories! R.I.P.
