Kurt, thanks for sharing de Maupassant’s cheery view on existence. What can one expect, however, from a writer, along with others, who liked nothing better than to dine beneath the much maligned Eiffel Tower in order that he couldn’t see it. For a good belly laugh, I recommend Poe. [that last statement might be facetious, and I apologise to Poe’s spirit, as I think he was a wonderful writer]. Good likeness. You’ve captured the sadness, Kurt.
Yeah, the Eiffel Tower wasn’t very well received, was it. Big fan of Poe – need to re-immerse myself in his magic.
De Maupassant! One of my favourite short story writers. I’m torn between him and Saki.
I’m a big fan of his short stories, too. But I’m still mulling over an opinion of the novel of his I just read (his last).
