I agree, Lorna. Maybe you heard of Steve Pavlina? He’s a motivational speaker dude and he had a wonderful post a while back about how the further and farther we journey from where we are from, where we were socialized, both physically and metaphorically, the smaller and smaller our ego becomes. To me it’s both a beautiful and deeply profound concept.
I haven’t heard of him, but agree and understand why that’s true. We come to understand that “our way” isn’t the only way. It’s humbling. And when we’re humble, we fit in better to the world.
Kurt is the author of the romance noir novel Rainy Season, the dark thriller novel The Good Kill, the literary fiction novel Inside the Skin, and the poetry collection Short Verses & Other Curses, among other works. He is also the screenwriter/executive producer of the short film Leave, adapted from his short story of the same name, and which premiered at the LA Femme International Film Festival in 2018.

The key there is “if you only.” It is helpful to read what everyone else is reading to be informed. And then, as the quote implies, read more.

Yup. Concur with that, indeed, LL.

I would imagine the same would be true for hanging out with the same types of people. We need more diversity in our lives, that’s for sure!

This is something we so often forget, and it applies to much more than reading.
